Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $3,595 Monthly / $43,140 Annually

Location: Wartburg, TN

Available Positions: Five (5) at the Department of Correction, Morgan County Correctional Complex

Incentive: Newly hired correctional officers are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus, distributed over an 18-month period.

Starting Salary: The approved hiring rate for this position is $3,896 monthly / $46,752 yearly.

Qualifications

Education and Experience: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and have at least one year of full-time experience in adult correctional security work, whether with a federal, state, or accredited local agency. Relevant experience as a Correctional Officer with the State of Tennessee may substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements: Applicants must:

1. Be capable of qualifying with and carrying assigned weapons.
2. Be at least eighteen (18) years old at the time of application.
3. Be a U.S. citizen.
4. Exhibit good moral character, as determined by investigation.
5. Complete a criminal history disclosure form as approved by the appointing authority.
6. Agree to release all records involving their criminal history.
7. Provide a fingerprint sample for a criminal history records check.
8. Have no felony convictions or dishonorable discharges from military service.
9. Pass a physical examination in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
10. Pass a psychological evaluation relevant to the essential functions of the position.
11. Submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screening.
12. Possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license if required for the position.
13. Successfully complete a prescribed training course at the Tennessee Correction Academy upon appointment.

Job Responsibilities

1. Supervise inmate activities in various settings, including housing units and recreation areas.
2. Conduct inspections and patrols to identify contraband and security risks.
3. Process new inmates by assigning accommodations and searching for contraband.
4. Monitor inmate behavior and provide counseling as needed.
5. Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
6. Prepare reports including daily logs and disciplinary records.
7. Utilize various equipment such as radios and surveillance tools.
8. Ensure the safety of inmates through effective supervision.
9. Manage conflicts and intervene in potentially dangerous situations.
10. Communicate and enforce existing policies and procedures.
