Highly Motivated Performance and Observability Engineer

We're seeking an experienced and highly motivated Performance & Observability Engineer to join our team at The Hartford. This role will be responsible for assessing, strategizing, and building solutions for complex application and infrastructure observability needs to ensure production stability and visibility.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Configure, maintain, and optimize our applications and infrastructure's observability capabilities in partnership with SRE, AIOps, and other teams.
  • Monitor and develop SLOs and SLIs through customer user journeys, advise on SLAs, and establish error budgets.
  • Strategize, analyze, and tune applications for performance and availability via DevSecOps principles and technologies.
  • Implement application performance management, log analytics, error analytics, and business analytics solutions using APM tools like Dynatrace, Splunk, and Akamai.
  • Automate system scalability and continually work to improve system resiliency, performance, and efficiency.
  • Work with Incident/Problem Manager to drive blameless RCA, postmortems, and RCRs by providing engineering and tool expertise.
  • Develop next-gen, smart, automated monitoring & alerting solutions in software delivery and production environments.

Qualifications and Skillset:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science Engineering, or a related field, plus eight (8+) years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Experience in Dynatrace, LoadRunner, and Splunk for performance analysis, alerting, and monitoring solutions implementation.
  • Expertise in cloud-native technologies, including containerization, microservices architecture, and serverless computing.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify root causes of issues.
  • Proficient in utilizing and supporting APM tools in a large enterprise environment.
  • Proficient with application server instrumentation (Java), Real User Monitoring, Synthetic Monitoring, and Event Management in ServiceNow.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, enabling effective engagement with stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to coach team members and engineering teams.

Compensation:

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies required for the role.

The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.

The annualized base pay range for this role is: $113,520 - $170,280
