Teen Services Specialist

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Teen Services Specialist to join our team at the Spring Valley Library. As a key member of our Teen Services Department, you will play a vital role in developing and implementing programs that promote literacy, education, and community engagement among teens.
Key Responsibilities- Provide exceptional customer service to teens and other library patrons, promoting a positive and inclusive library environment.
- Assist teens with projects and activities that support their academic and career goals, leveraging their skills and experience.
- Instruct teens and other youth in the use of technical equipment and software programs, fostering digital literacy and creativity.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment for staff and patrons, adhering to library policies and procedures.
- Support the implementation of special programs and exhibits to improve teen communication, creativity, and job skills, encouraging greater patronage of the Library District.
- Utilize electronic devices, sound recording equipment, printers, automated library systems, and software programs to enhance library services and operations.
- Provide basic computer maintenance, including file management, troubleshooting, and technical support.
- Conduct outreach to external organizations, promoting library services and partnerships.
- Ensure physical maintenance and proper location of library materials and equipment related to the department.
- Prepare and conduct programs targeted for teens and other youth, promoting literacy, education, and community engagement.
- Decorate the department with teen-created artwork and projects, enhancing the library's aesthetic appeal.
- Provide reference and other services to teens and other library patrons, searching files, library materials, and automated systems to locate requested information or materials.
- Conduct tours of the department for teachers, students, schools, and other interested groups, promoting library services and resources.
- Maintain compliance with library policies and procedures, explaining them to patrons and staff as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of Teen Services and/or Youth Services, staying up-to-date on best practices and trends.
- Exercise limited decision-making skills, responding to public and staff inquiries in a courteous and timely manner.
- Schedule public use of equipment, when appropriate, ensuring efficient use of resources.
- Maintain positive communication between branch staff, other departments, and Library District Administration.
- Support volunteer mentors, ensuring they work effectively with teens and other youth.
- Maintain, track, and file patron and statistical data and records, providing valuable insights for library services and operations.
- Interact extensively with Library District staff and management, other library systems, outside agencies, partners, vendors, and the general public, promoting library services and partnerships.
- Operate library and general office equipment, including copy machines, telephones, and fax machines.
- Ensure the calendar of programs, activities, and events for the department is maintained, promoting library services and events.
- Provide information about District-wide activities, facilities, and services, promoting library services and partnerships.
- Attend and/or conduct meetings and training sessions onsite and offsite, participating in sharing ideas and issues in support of collaborative projects across networks.
- Promote and support the overall mission of the District, demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with public and staff, and acting in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree and substantial coursework in teen literature and/or development or equivalent training and/or experience working with teens. Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining all required licenses and certificates in active status without suspension or revocation.
