Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Perioperative Nurse to join our team at HexaQuEST Health, Inc. in the Outpatient Surgery Center at Mount Nittany.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assess and respond to the individual physical, psychosocial, and spiritual needs of patients through personal observation and interaction, acting as a patient advocate.
  2. Utilize professional nursing skills and judgment to implement nursing care and treat identified problems.
  3. Communicate patient assessments to relevant individuals to ensure coordinated patient care.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of diagnostic measures such as labs, radiology, and EKG, as well as skills in IV therapy.
  5. Transcribe and implement physicians' orders accurately and timely, admitting patients to the surgical center efficiently.
  6. Document patient clinical records via computer with accuracy and in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with correct surgical procedures.
  7. Provide appropriate and knowledgeable instruction/education to patients and their families.
  8. Decrease supplies according to policy, utilizing supplies, equipment, and resources to contain costs without compromising patient care.
  9. Assist with housekeeping duties such as cleaning and making beds as needed for patients.
  10. When assigned to PACU, use knowledge and critical thinking to assess and provide appropriate nursing care, recognizing patients' needs, maintaining airway, monitoring vital signs, utilizing correct medication to control pain, and consulting with surgeon and anesthesiologist if difficulties arise.
  11. Evaluate patient status using discharge criteria to safely move patients onto Phase 2.
  12. Familiarize yourself with the transfer process and procedure to send patients to the medical center.
  13. When functioning as a float nurse, maintain communication between all areas and be available to assist staff as needed to maintain flow, relieving staff for breaks and lunch in a timely manner and utilizing staff in a cost-effective manner.
  14. Work as assigned in the pain management and eye laser procedure rooms.
  15. Familiarize yourself with anesthesia supplies, assist with nerve blocks, know the location of crash carts, MH carts, and medications that may be needed in an emergency.
  16. Participate in committee meetings, offer suggestions for improvements, and seek guidance and direction when needed.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be currently active with a State License.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience.
  • Minimum 40 guaranteed hours.
  • Specialty Type: Nursing.
  • Sub Specialty: Perioperative.
  • General Certifications: ACLS, BLS/BCLS, PALS.
  • Bilingual: No.
  • EMR Used: Meditech.
  • Holiday Coverage Required: No.
