Job Summary

Harris Health System is seeking a skilled Medical Interpreter to join its team at LBJ Hospital.

This role requires providing accurate and timely interpretations in Spanish and English, ensuring effective communication between patients, visitors, and healthcare providers.

About the Position

As a Medical Interpreter, you will maintain accurate records of interpretation encounters, identify and address the psychosocial needs of limited-English-speaking patients, and deliver exceptional service in both in-person and over-the-phone settings.

The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, familiarity with medical terminology, and proficiency in Microsoft Office. They must be able to work weekends, holidays, and flexible schedules as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Provide oral and written translations in Spanish and English.
  • Maintain accurate records of interpretation encounters.
  • Identify and address the psychosocial needs of limited-English-speaking patients.
Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in medical interpretation in a healthcare setting.
  • Languages: Proficient in Spanish and English.
  • Must pass an interpretation proficiency examination designated by Harris Health System.
  • Strong communication skills, familiarity with medical terminology, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
