Student Support Specialist II Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Student Support Specialist II to join our team at Palomar College. As a key member of our English as a Second Language Department, you will be responsible for providing exceptional support to students, ensuring they have a seamless experience in our academic programs.
Responsibilities
• Provide administrative support to the department, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of student records and data.
• Assist students with the admissions process, assessment, enrollment, and financial aid, providing guidance on academic and career programs.
• Develop and implement special projects, maintaining and improving work processes and procedures.
• Oversee the development and implementation of departmental software, ensuring technical training and support for staff and students.
• Determine program eligibility for new and continuing students, monitoring adherence to program regulations and advising students on requirements for maintaining eligibility.
• Schedule participants for counseling appointments, workshops, orientations, and special events, performing research on specific student issues and articulation information.
• Assess student records, reviewing transcripts and course equivalency information, graduation articulation requirements, and transfer information.
• Provide information on program eligibility and requirements to new students, tracking student attendance at workshops and maintaining records of student contacts.
Requirements
• Five years of increasingly responsible clerical and secretarial experience, with a focus on public or student contact and familiarity with counseling, student assessment, eligibility, and matriculation requirements.
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade, with transcripts required for education and/or experience substitution.
• Completion of college-level coursework from an accredited college or university, with a focus on office support practices and procedures, needs and concerns of low-income and educationally disadvantaged students, and higher education, government, and community resources available to students.
• Strong project management tools and techniques, with a focus on principles and practices of sound business communication, correct English usage, and customer service, public relations, and community outreach.
• Ability to work under typical office conditions, with physical fitness requirements necessary to perform job functions with or without accommodation.
