Job Description

Willis Knighton Health is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Resident Physician to join our team. As a Resident Physician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the growth and development of our healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide competent and compassionate patient care, working effectively as a member of the healthcare team.
  • Develop and implement a plan for study, reading, and research of selected topics to promote personal and professional growth.
  • Communicate with patients and families about the disease process and the plan of care, demonstrating an understanding of socioeconomic, cultural, and managerial factors.
  • Assist in the operating room and perform other invasive procedures under direct supervision.
  • Supervise the routine activities of junior residents and students, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Participate in educational conferences, reading, and research to stay up-to-date with the latest medical knowledge and advancements.
Requirements
  • Must have sufficient senses to observe patients and determine appropriate examination and treatment.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with patients, family members, faculty, colleagues, and staff.
  • Must exhibit reasoning abilities to analyze, synthesize, and apply information from various sources.
  • Must have the ability to develop and demonstrate mature, sensitive, and effective relationships with patients, family members, faculty, colleagues, and staff.
  • Must be able to execute motor movements reasonably required to provide general care and emergency treatment to patients.
Education and Training

The Resident Physician will receive progressively increasing levels of responsibility in caring for patients under faculty supervision. The faculty attending will evaluate the progress of each resident in acquiring the skills necessary for the resident to progress to the next level of training.

Graduated Levels of Responsibility
  • Post Graduate Year 1 (PGY-1): Supervision will be provided by senior level residents or faculty, with direct supervision immediately available.
  • Post Graduate Year 2 (PGY-2): Residents will perform independently the duties learned in the first year and may supervise the routine activities of first-year residents.
  • Post Graduate Year 3 (PGY-3): Residents will be capable of managing patients with virtually any routine or complicated condition and of supervising PGY-1 and PGY-2 residents in their daily activities.
  • Post Graduate Year 4 (PGY-4): Residents will assume an increased level of responsibility as the chief or senior resident on selected services and can perform the full range of complex procedures expected of the chosen specialty.
  • Post Graduate Year 5 or Higher (PGY-5): Residents will take responsibility for the management of the major surgical teaching services, under the supervision of the faculty.
