Job Summary

The Environmental Technician Assistant will perform moderately complex technical, analytical, and sub-professional engineering work involving inspections and reviews of industrial pre-treatment systems, wastewater discharge sources, storm water, and other environmental compliance concerns. The successful candidate will assist in the enforcement of Federal, State, and local environmental requirements, issue citations, and make appearances in municipal court.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct environmental inspections at construction sites, commercial and industrial facilities, and field locations.
  • Review compliance requirements and perform technical sampling and flow rate investigations.
  • Assist in collecting Stormwater quality samples and maintain computerized database information.
  • Act as liaison or assist other agencies as directed in relation to department objectives.
  • Perform technical calculations and lab analysis duties as required.
Requirements
  • Completion of two years of advanced coursework in environmental science and three years of progressively responsible and varied sub-professional environmental engineering work experience.
  • Good knowledge of the principles and practices of environmental engineering, chemistry, and hydraulics.
  • Ability to read and interpret the sewer atlas, plans, maps, and specifications.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and statistical data.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, officials, and the public.
Working Environment

Work in this classification is both indoors in an office environment and outside in a field setting. Will travel to other City locations as required.
