Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician III

Job Summary:

DHR Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Technician III to join our team. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for obtaining patient samples, performing analytical tests, and reporting results to physicians.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and solve problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis
  • Perform analytical tests of body fluids, blood, serum, plasma, cells, and other substances
  • Integrate and relate data generated by various clinical laboratories while making decisions regarding possible discrepancies
  • Confirm abnormal results, verify and execute quality control procedures, and solve problems concerning the generation of laboratory data
  • Establish and perform preventive and corrective maintenance of equipment and instruments as well as identify appropriate sources for repairs
  • Demonstrate professional conduct through interpersonal skills with patients, laboratory personnel, other health care professionals, and the public
  • Assists in organizing the assigned workload
  • Participate in continuing education for growth and maintenance of professional competence
  • Instructs new employees, section personnel, and students in new and established clinical laboratory responsibility
  • Maintains inventory of reagents and other supplies
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department
  • Insures compliance with federal and state regulations

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree in Applied Sciences in Medical Lab Technology
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or equivalent specialty certification within one year of hiring date
  • Minimum of two years' experience required

Working Conditions:

The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

  • Form Perception: Ability to perceive pertinent details and objects or in pictorial or graphic material to make visual comparisons and discriminations and see slight differences in shapes and shadings of figures and widths and lengths of lines.
  • Clerical Perception: Ability to receive pertinent details and verbal or tabular material. To observe differences in copy, to proofread words and numbers, and to avoid perceptual errors in arithmetic computation.
  • Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate eyes and hands to fingers rapidly and accurately in making precise movements with speed. Ability to make a movement response accurately and quickly.
  • Finger Dexterity: Ability to move hands easily and skillfully. To work with fingers in placing and turning motions.
  • Manual Dexterity: Ability to move hands easily and skillfully. To work with hands in placing and turning motions.
  • Eye-Hand-Foot Coordination: Ability to move the hand and foot coordinately with each other in accordance with visual stimuli.
  • Color Discrimination: Ability to perceive and respond to similarities or differences in colors, shapes, or other values of the same or different color. To identify a particular color, or to recognize harmonious or contrasting color combinations, or to match color adequately.
