Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Urban Forestry Specialist to join our team in Bend, OR. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of urban forestry principles, practices, and regulations.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to lead the creation of an urban forest management program and provide strategic cross-departmental support to other City Departments.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement urban forestry policies, update and interpret tree-related standards, codes, and ordinances.
  • Provide consultation related to trees and landscaping for various City departments and private development projects.
  • Manage the City's participation in arborist and forestry programs, including Tree City USA designation.
  • Assess the impact of proposed projects on existing trees and landscapes, providing recommendations to minimize negative effects.
  • Identify and oversee grant opportunities to support an urban forestry program consistent with City grant and procurement policies.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in urban forestry or a related field.
  • 2-3 years' experience in urban forestry involving extensive experience dealing with multiple government agencies, elected officials, and the public.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Certification as a Certified Arborist by the International Society of Arboriculture.
  • International Society of Arboriculture Tree Risk Assessment Qualification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Current and valid Driver's license per City policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
Estimated Salary

$89,166 - $115,789 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
