We are seeking a skilled Optician to join our team at New York University. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing basic reviews of clients' eyeglass prescriptions, selecting and adjusting frames to fit clients' facial structures, and measuring and recording client data relating to specific eyeglass fittings.
Key Responsibilities- Perform basic reviews of clients' eyeglass prescriptions to identify optimal lens designs
- Select and adjust frames to fit clients' facial structures
- Measure and record client data relating to specific eyeglass fittings
- Calculate lens measurement specifications
- Assist students in selecting and purchasing glasses
- Maintain inventory and encourage retail sales of frames, lenses, and contact lenses
- Collect and process payments for purchases
- Inspect finished spectacles to ensure compliance with American National Standards Institute tolerances
- Answer telephones, screen calls, and take messages
- Respond to patient inquiries, directing them as appropriate or providing information
- High School diploma or equivalent and American Board of Opticianry certification
- 2 years' related experience
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- Knowledge of and ability to operate a variety of ophthalmic equipment
- Associates degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing
- Experience in a healthcare facility providing patient care
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the hourly rate for this position is USD $34.829. This rate is based on bargaining unit contracts. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
