Director of Government Relations

Job Summary
The Director of Government Relations will serve as the lead for advancing Alnylam's public policy priorities at the federal and state levels. This role will leverage political insights, build and maintain relationships with key policymakers, and represent Alnylam in external forums. The Director will work in partnership with Public Policy & Government Relations colleagues to identify policy priorities for Alnylam and develop strategies to address them.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and nurture key relationships with members of Congress and their staff to create value-add opportunities that raise Alnylam's visibility in Washington, DC, and in targeted states.
- Build relationships with key associations and develop advocacy materials for external audiences.
- Monitor federal and state legislative and regulatory landscape, and proactively identify policy and political opportunities and risks to Alnylam business.
- Create and advance strategies for active engagement with government officials and policy stakeholders to support achievements of Alnylam's public policy priorities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred.
- 10 years of experience minimum required, preferably in government, government relations, biopharmaceuticals or healthcare.
- Experience working with influential groups in Washington, D.C., and/or state capitals, including trade associations and the alliance community.
- Strong knowledge of US healthcare system, Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance laws and regulations, as well as knowledge of the biopharmaceutical industry and related public policy issues.
