Job Summary

At UPMC, we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Patient Care Technician to join our 3B Step Down Unit. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in supporting our nursing staff and delivering exceptional patient care.

About the Role

This is a unique opportunity for individuals who are passionate about providing personalized care and support to patients. As a Patient Care Technician, you will be responsible for assisting with patient procedures, daily living activities, and physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. You will also provide feedback to registered nurses and report any changes in patient status.

Responsibilities

+ Assist patients with daily living activities and procedures

+ Support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies

+ Provide feedback to RNs and report changes in patient status

+ Perform core nursing assistant tasks, including blood glucose monitoring, weighing patients, taking vital signs, and collecting specimens

+ Report equipment malfunctions and communicate effectively with other departments

+ Contribute to unit activities, such as responding to call lights, passing meal trays, and transporting patients

+ Receive and act on feedback, identify learning needs, and participate in self-review

+ Provide patient education and instruction under RN direction

+ Document patient information and perform clerical functions as needed

+ Support department projects and quality initiatives

Requirements

We are seeking candidates who possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with one year of general healthcare experience. Alternatively, you may have six months of experience as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire/transfer/promotion. Other options include enrollment in PT/OT/PA program or related healthcare training program with completion of at least one clinical rotation, or completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.
