Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who delivers patient care through the nursing process. This includes assessing and reassessing patient clinical conditions, developing and implementing patient care plans, and utilizing critical thinking skills for patient care and daily operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare teams to promote positive patient outcomes
  • Assess and reassess patient clinical conditions, including objective and subjective assessment data
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate patient care plans
  • Utilize critical thinking skills for patient care and daily operations
  • Coordinate, initiate, and validate teaching based on identified learning needs of patients and designated support persons
  • Manage, administer, and reconcile medications
  • Document patient care, interventions, and responses in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner
  • Delegate tasks appropriately according to skill level
  • Triage patients according to the ESI triage algorithm
  • Manage sexual assault victim care, paperwork, and evidence
  • Manage medication, including Omnicell and refrigerator monitoring
  • Facilitate patient flow
  • Prioritize and delegate tasks related to patient care
  • Communicate effectively with First Responders in the community (EMS)
  • Knowledge of roles in codes, including but not limited to: inside response team, outside response team, code blue in ED, code blue in house, code blue on ground, express team, code green, and other hospital codes
  • Communicate clearly and sensitively with patients and families dealing with various stages of trauma and tragedy
  • Manage expired patients, including but not limited to: coroner notification, M transplant notification, funeral home notification, morgue placement, patient belongings, family physician notification, and police notification if required
  • Manage Behavioral Health patients in acute crisis
  • Transfer management per EMTALA guidelines
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required
  • Greater than one (1) year of working experience in a similar unit with comparable patient acuity is preferred
  • BLS certified required
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within 1 year of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent within 1 year of hire
  • De-Escalation training within 6 months of employment
  • Current Illinois RN State licensure required
