  • Job Title: Direct Support Professional
  • Location: Columbia, TN
  • Salary: $15.35 per hour, plus $1.00 shift differential for weekend work (Saturday and Sunday)
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 3:00pm

Job Description:

We are looking for an individual who shares our passion for empowering people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve their full potential. As a Direct Support Professional, you will provide direct support to consumers in daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dining skills, housekeeping skills, social skills, and community access. You will also assist consumers in training activities as specified in their Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and activity schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Facilitate consumers in daily living activities, including personal hygiene, dining skills, housekeeping skills, social skills, and community access
  2. Provide direct support to consumers in training activities as specified in ISPs and activity schedules
  3. Aid in mobility as needed for those using wheelchairs and other assistive devices
  4. Assist in bedroom maintenance and teach housekeeping skills and care of clothing
  5. Assist with meal service and teach dining skills to promote social skills and personal dignity during meals
  6. Administer medications and treatments according to company policy
  7. Be assigned as a Primary Person (P2) for one or more consumers and ensure their wellbeing at all times
  8. Attend and successfully complete in-service training sessions as scheduled
  9. Serve as a role model and mentor to fellow Direct Support Professionals
  10. Complete data collection, observation notes, and daily reports as directed by agency policy and procedure
  11. Assist consumers in transportation as needed
  12. Participate as a member of the Individual Support Team and contribute to the development of consumer ISPs
  13. Monitor consumers' activities to ensure safety and health care practices are observed

Qualifications:

  • A high school education or its equivalent is preferred
  • Some previous experience in supporting/assisting individuals with disabilities is preferred
  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record is preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Satisfactory completion of criminal background checks as required by federal and/or state laws and any other post-offer, pre-employment screenings as mandated by a governing agency or the company
