Job Description

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Vice Chair and Associate Chief of Staff of Mental Health. This role is a key leadership position within the department, responsible for overseeing the mental health services provided to veterans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the mental health services provided to veterans, including inpatient and outpatient care, substance abuse treatment, and mental health intensive case management.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve mental health outcomes for veterans, including reducing wait times and improving access to care.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the VA to ensure seamless care coordination and communication.
  • Represent the mental health department at senior leadership meetings and provide input on departmental policies and procedures.
  • Develop and manage budgets for mental health services, including personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise mental health staff, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and nurses.
  • Stay up-to-date on the latest research and best practices in mental health care and implement evidence-based treatments and interventions.
Requirements
  • MD or PhD in a relevant field, such as psychiatry, psychology, or social work.
  • Board certification in psychiatry or psychology.
  • At least 5 years of experience in mental health leadership, including experience in a VA setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including veterans, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect and analyze data to inform decision-making.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • National reputation for leadership and innovation in mental health care.
  • Experience with quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
  • Knowledge of VA policies and procedures, including those related to mental health care.
  • Experience with budget development and management.
