Job Summary

The Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in the healthcare team, administering respiratory therapy procedures to diagnose and treat patients with respiratory and pulmonary disorders. This position requires a strong understanding of respiratory care principles and the ability to work effectively with patients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.

Responsibilities:
  • Administer respiratory therapy, including oxygen, respiratory medication, PFTs, ABGs, and mechanical ventilation, as prescribed by physicians.
  • Evaluate patient condition and consult with physicians to determine appropriate treatment plans.
  • Monitor patient progress following procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.
  • Document all patient care activities and ensure compliance with quality of care standards and regulations.
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Perform evaluation procedures, both invasive and non-invasive, to determine respiratory care needs.
  • Collect and analyze sputum, blood, and breath specimens for diagnosis.
  • Measure lung capacity to determine if there are any impairments.
  • Communicate diagnostic results and treatment suggestions to patients and healthcare team members.
  • Assure smooth operation of the PFT and ABG laboratory, or other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.
