Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Human Resources Specialist to join our team at Northern Arizona Council of Governments. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of human resources administrative tasks, including maintaining employee records, assisting with payroll, recruitment, benefits processing, and ensuring compliance with Human Resources policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate hiring manager candidate review packets for interview selection, matrix employment applications, and verify education
  • Assist and serve as back up to Human Resources Recruitment Specialist
  • Coordinate candidate interviews
  • Coordinate pre-employment processes, including background checks, verification of past employment and professional reference checks
  • Assist in maintaining the department's Human Resources files to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and retention schedule
  • Assist with new employee orientation by ensuring completion of necessary documentation
  • Provide administrative support to the Human Resources Department, such as distribution of mail, scheduling meetings, and preparation of documents
  • Review and process all personnel and payroll related actions during the course of an employee's employment to ensure data accuracy, approval levels, and compliance with Agency policy, local, state, and federal regulations
  • Assist with record audits to ensure compliance with grant, local, state, and federal regulations
  • Assist employees with benefits enrollment, answering questions related to health, retirement, and other employee benefit programs
  • Respond and provide guidance to employee inquiries regarding Human Resources policies and procedures
  • Support the development and coordination of training programs
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business, or a related discipline, and two years' experience in Human Resources; OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Human Resources Certificate
  • PHR - Professional in Human Resources
  • SHRM-CP - SHRM Certified Professional
  • CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background, Motor Vehicle Report, and obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance
