Job Title: School Nurse Specialist

Wake County Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled and experienced School Nurse Specialist to join our team.

Job Summary:

The School Nurse Specialist will provide professional learning to staff on maintaining good health and disease prevention, identify health disorders among staff and students, and provide staff education on health-related issues. The successful candidate will also administer immunizations, review student immunization records, and prepare health reports for submission to the Board of Education and the Wake County Health Department.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide consultation and training to school employees on medical plans of care for students.
  • Develop and implement staff development programs on health-related issues and medically necessary treatments.
  • Review and analyze student immunization records, administer immunizations, and prepare health reports.
  • Provide support to students, staff, and parents regarding medical plans of care.
  • Assist school staff in understanding immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data.
  • Monitor program outcomes and progress towards mutually identified program goals.
  • Attend workshops and other educational programs to increase nursing knowledge and skills.
  • Develop, test, and assist with the implementation of EASI (Electronic Access to Student Information, electronic records).
  • Participate in the on-call rotation to assist with weekend emergencies related to Bloodborne Pathogens and Communicable Diseases.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
  • Four years of experience in school health, pediatrics, public health, or related nursing field.
  • State of North Carolina Registered Nursing license.
  • National Board Certification of School Nurses (NBCSN).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Four years of experience in school health.
  • Experience using the North Carolina Immunization Registry (NCIR).
