Job Title: Spanish Language Medical Interpreter

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Spanish Language Medical Interpreter to join our team at Heartland Community Health Center. As a Medical Interpreter, you will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication between medical providers and patients with limited English proficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and timely interpretation services for patients, families, and healthcare staff.
  • Ensure accurate interpretation of medical terminology and concepts.
  • Participate in pre-visit planning, morning huddles, and patient follow-ups as required.
  • Convey all messages accurately and completely without omissions, substitutions, or additions.
  • Assist patients with translating forms, making referral calls, and other tasks as needed.
  • Provide access to medical providers and other clinical staff by answering Spanish language message line and interpreting messages.
  • Relay test results and instructions from providers to patients.
  • Assist patients in communicating with pharmacy regarding medications or refill-related questions.
  • Assist Nurse in tracking critical patients with abnormal test results and ensuring patients adhere to tracking needs.
  • Scan patient documents into EMR.
  • Provide educational information to diabetic patients regarding follow-up care and insulin use.
  • Supply patients with resource information regarding diabetes.
  • Assist in rooming patients as needed.
  • Protect written patient information in your possession.
  • Promote direct communication among all parties in encounters.
  • Alert all parties to any significant cultural misunderstandings that arise.
  • Follow Corporate, Ethical, and HIPAA policies and procedures to ensure confidentiality of all patient information.
  • Effectively practice teamwork, respect for coworkers, good attendance, and punctuality.
  • Mentor/train new hires as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, with fluency in speaking, writing, and reading.
  • Spanish Language Medical Interpretation Certification strongly preferred.
  • Associated Degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology in both English and Spanish.
  • Customer service-oriented; patient-centered focus.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • Strong interest in working with an interdisciplinary health team and culturally diverse patient populations.

  • Physically able to stand, sit, ambulate, and has dexterity in hands.
  • Demonstrate high level of confidentiality.

Details:

  • Schedule: Full-time non-exempt averaging 40 hours per week.
  • Hours M – F from 7:30 am – 7 pm as needed.
  • Hours are approximate and may be altered by supervisor(s) as needed.
