Job Overview

KLJ Engineering LLC is seeking a highly skilled Land Surveying Specialist to support engineers and project managers in ensuring construction compliance for public and private sector projects.

This role involves land surveying, photogrammetry, and boundary mapping to aid project design and construction. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in various surveying types and the ability to create precise reports, illustrations, and technical documentation for moderate-scale projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform research and land surveys for moderate-scale construction projects, mapping boundaries and placement for structures and utilities.
  • Generate detailed and accurate illustrations, technical reports, and legal documentation.
  • Conduct property surveys (boundary, topographic, as-built, etc.) using survey instruments to meet industry standards and legal requirements.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from deeds, titles, plans, and other property records.
  • Verify measurements and resolve discrepancies between plans and specifications.
  • Act as a consulting surveyor, managing project aspects or assisting in oversight on more complex projects.
  • Write comprehensive technical reports, including site inspection summaries, calculations, and 2D/3D illustrations.
  • Support cross-functional teams, providing survey insights, problem-solving, and risk assessment.
  • Maintain and adjust surveying instruments for optimal accuracy and train entry-level survey staff.
  • Engage with clients and contractors to coordinate survey activities.
  • Stay current on industry advancements in surveying technology, techniques, and practices.
  • Adhere to ethical decision-making standards regarding company funds and resources.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma required; Associate's degree in Surveying, Geospatial, or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant experience, including work with easements, rights of way, boundary surveys, and GPS.
  • Professional surveying licensure/certification required.
  • Demonstrated experience with public and private sector projects (e.g., state, county, utilities, private development).
  • Strong knowledge of survey principles, industry codes, and regulatory compliance.
Skills
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, Geopak, and survey equipment (e.g., Leica Robotic Total Station).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to apply technical knowledge to create effective solutions.
  • Attention to detail, excellent communication, and the ability to interact professionally with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Adaptability to changing technology, techniques, and work processes.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently or as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and handle objects or tools.
  • Capability to walk up to ten miles on uneven terrain.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 75 pounds occasionally.
  • Visual acuity for close work, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work Hours and Travel
  • Typical schedule of 40+ hours per week, with 90% fieldwork and 10% office work.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license due to occasional travel.
