Overview of the Role

The American Red Cross is a leading humanitarian organization that relies on volunteers and donors to deliver its mission. As a Donor Center Phlebotomist, you will play a critical role in collecting lifesaving blood donations at our fixed site locations.

About the Job

We offer paid phlebotomy training for individuals without prior medical experience, with opportunities to grow their healthcare skills and career within our top-rated humanitarian organization.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as they will be interacting with donors and working collaboratively with the team to create a welcoming environment.

The Standard Schedule for this position involves variable hours, including 4 x 10-hour shifts, with some weekends required. The schedule is provided two to three weeks in advance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Taking the time to personally connect with donors, listening to their stories and helping them understand the impact of their donation
  • Collaborating with teammates to create a friendly and comfortable environment for volunteer donors
  • Maintaining attention to detail to ensure the collected blood meets regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused
What You'll Need to Succeed

To excel in this role, you'll need:

  • An associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • A minimum of one year of customer service experience in a public setting
  • A valid driver's license with a good driving record (may be required)
  • The ability to lift, push, or pull heavy weights and adapt to irregular hours and frequent schedule changes
  • Basics computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Location and Salary

This role is based in Woodbridge, Virginia, with a starting rate of $18.43 per hour and potential for up to $22.80 per hour based on experience in drawing blood.
