Job Summary & Responsibilities:

  • Support and manage small design and construction projects for Facilities initiatives from inception through to delivery for the United States Postal Service's Facilities Implementation organization.
  • Work with various building vendors and manage technical and administrative work engaged in the delivery of repair and alteration projects for postal facilities across the country.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to team leaders, contractors, and subordinate staff on all repair and alteration project issues.
  • Oversee all aspects of these maintenance action projects, including setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, and monitoring and summarizing progress of various maintenance projects.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide engineering consulting services, including technical expertise in the evaluation of problems and the development of alternatives for construction projects.
  • Participate in the analysis, evaluation, conduct of feasibility studies, cost estimates, and resolution of technical problems associated with the plan, design, and development of engineering systems and equipment that support construction projects.
  • Prepare and develop justification for engineering proposals, including identification of alternatives for facilities, systems, and equipment for review of management.
  • Evaluate technical, cost, and economic data to identify alternatives for support of mail processing.
  • Participate in project management activities affiliated with the design, construction, testing, start-up, and operation of facilities, systems, and/or equipment.
  • Participate in the preparation of requests for proposals, including development of drawings and specifications, and upon receipt, participate in the valuation of bids for technical accuracy and compliance with contract requirements.
  • Attend preconstruction and final acceptance meetings, conduct on-site inspections during the various project phases, and report on noncompliance with contract requirements.
  • Work with architects, engineers, contractors, construction representatives, and others involved in design and construction of postal facilities.

Our ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in architecture, construction management, or civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical engineering. A minimum of 7 years of experience in commercial facility maintenance or a related area is required. The ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously occurring at multiple sites is essential.

Education, Experience & Schedule:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in architecture, construction management, or civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical engineering required.
  • 7 years of experience in commercial facility maintenance or a related area required.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously occurring at multiple sites.
  • Proficiency using MS Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to travel and work flexible hours when needed.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
  • Candidates must meet eligibility requirements for a USPS Public Trust clearance.
  • Initially, the position requires working for several weeks and until client is satisfied with performance. However, the position may transition to working from the customer location for three days per week and allow teleworking from home for two days per week if based on satisfactory performance.
