Job Title: High School Science Teacher

Lycée Français de la Nouvelle-Orléans is seeking a qualified High School Science Teacher to join our team. As a High School Science Teacher, you will be responsible for providing science instruction to students in grades in High School.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide science instruction to students in grades in High School
  • Assist the instructional process in its many forms
  • Support school-wide instructional initiatives
  • Implement the French Ministry of Education Science curriculum along with Louisiana Science Standards
  • Gather student data through observation, dialogue, testing tools, etc., and design strategies to meet student needs
  • Create daily lesson plans and learning activities for students based on national, local, and school standards in science education and research and knowledge of developmental behaviors
  • Design and deliver high-quality, engaging instruction in the form of discussion, demonstrations, labs, and projects using a variety of proven methods
  • Differentiate lessons when needed to give all students access to the curriculum regardless of disability, instructional level, English proficiency, or level of interest in the subject
  • Evaluate student performance on tasks established by the standards using different methods such as observation, performance-based tasks, or other standard test practices
  • Improve skills and knowledge in teaching by regularly taking classes, attending workshops, and discovering new methods of delivering exciting content to students
  • Maintain an accurate and current gradebook, tracking student data, and drafting report cards
  • Conduct school-wide benchmark and state assessments
Community-Based Learning Initiatives:
  • Assist in the delivery of curriculum that utilizes community resources to enrich the learning experiences of students
  • Plan and chaperone field trips and projects related to Lycée's Thinking Outside the Classroom Program
Other Duties:
  • Effectively communicate with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, and parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement
  • Participate in SBLC, IEP, and 504 meetings as needed
  • Support students and administration in Positive Behavior Intervention and Support philosophy
  • Assist students in adopting a behavior conducive to success in the classroom setting
  • Participate in faculty meetings and professional learning communities meetings
  • Assist in orientation and open houses if requested
  • Model non-discriminatory practices in all activities
  • Perform other job-related functions as may be assigned
  • Be punctual and review and follow all Staff Handbook policies and procedures
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Experience in instruction in an elementary, middle, or secondary school setting
  • Flexibility and a team-spirit work ethic
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Remain current with Louisiana Student Standards and other instructional requirements
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment with a multicultural team
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new curriculum (French Ministry of Education science curriculum)
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Louisiana Certification
  • Three or more years teaching experience
  • Fluency in French
  • Experience in differentiating instruction and supporting students with learning challenges
