Responsibilities:
People Functions:
- Develops and maintains effective relationships with patients, families, and interprofessional teams to deliver personalized care.
- Fosters a collaborative work environment by actively offering assistance, responding to requests, and promoting teamwork.
- Implements education programs for patient populations and department processes, mentors and coaches other staff, and may include preceptorship.
Service Functions:
- Follows patient-centered care standards, conducting nursing assessments, assisting with exams and treatment, and maintaining medical records while practicing in a culturally diverse and inclusive environment.
- Advocates on behalf of patients to identify and resolve clinical and ethical concerns, utilizing resources and collaborating with the interprofessional team to provide holistic care.
- Effectively manages electronic health records, including incoming and outgoing electronic communication that impacts patient care plans.
Quality/Safety Functions:
- Follows nursing process, regulatory requirements, and professional practice standards to identify areas for improvement, achieve quality measures, and promote patient safety.
- Provides and modifies care for complex patients, coordinating with the interprofessional team based on patient evaluation and using clinical judgment with an evidence-based analytical approach.
- Improves quality and safety scores through peer-to-peer accountability, near-miss reporting, and collaboration with the interprofessional team.
- Operates equipment accurately and safely, prepares and assembles instruments and supplies according to sterilization parameters, maintains records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards.
- Assists providers during treatment, ensures exam rooms are stocked and neat, and cleans and sterilizes medical equipment.
Finance Functions:
- Manages time effectively, documents care timely, minimizes incidental overtime, and prioritizes daily tasks, contributing to department resource utilization and financial targets.
- Contributes towards meeting department financial targets through optimizing efficiency and other areas according to department specifications.
- Maintains storage of patient products in a neat and orderly fashion, maximizes effectiveness of clinical spaces, and supports inventory management for clinical materials by maintaining accurate inventory through routine reconciliation.
Growth/Innovation Functions:
- Identifies trends for improvement opportunities or practice changes and supports initiatives, researching the change and presenting options to appropriate clinical leadership.
- Identifies areas for innovation, efficiency, and improvement in patient care or department operations using evidence-based practice literature, offering innovative solutions through evidence-based practice/performance improvement projects and department activities.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
Work Experience:
- One year of nursing experience in a healthcare environment.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
- RN - Registered Nurse - Texas State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure within 60 days.
- BLS - Basic Life Support (AHA).
- Other credentials and certifications as defined by department/service line.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrates skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations.
- Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job.
- Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
- Strong assessment, organizational, and problem-solving skills as evidenced by capacity to prioritize multiple tasks and role components.
- Ability to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team, and patients and their families.
- Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.
- Demonstrates proficient time management skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft products including Outlook.
