About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Care Specialist to join our team at Petco. As a key member of our veterinary services team, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional care to our patients and their owners.

Job Summary

The Veterinary Care Specialist will be responsible for assisting veterinarians with appointments, surgery, dentistry, and other medical procedures. This includes taking vital signs, obtaining patient histories, and maintaining accurate records. You will also be responsible for scheduling appointments, communicating with clients, and managing inventory and client/patient records.

Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians with routine and emergency appointments, surgery, dentistry, and euthanasia's.
  • Take vital signs, obtain patient histories, and maintain accurate records.
  • Schedule appointments, communicate with clients, and manage inventory and client/patient records.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, safely support induction and monitoring of anesthetized patients, and monitor patients during recovery.
  • Provide in-hospital treatments for sick patients, including giving injectable and oral medications as well as intravenous therapies.
  • Participate in the training of new staff members and general dissemination of knowledge as required.
  • Keep hospital environment neat and clean, performing regular cleaning based on necessity and a pre-determined maintenance schedule.
Requirements
  • Credentialled Veterinary Technician (CVT) or Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a Veterinary Technician or in a veterinary practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Compassionate and sympathetic with the ability to maintain a professional attitude and demeanor during emotional and stressful situations.
  • Telephone and computer skills.
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team, learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change.
What We Offer

We offer a competitive salary range of $20.50-$33.00/hour, commensurate with experience, and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, paid time off, and opportunities for career growth and development.
