Job Summary:

The Psychiatric Assistant will serve as part of the treatment team, planning and conducting adjunctive services. This involves implementing moderately complex therapeutic procedures and applying various techniques in patient care services.

In this role, you will provide personal care and nursing services to patients on the unit, including orienting them to hospital rules and regulations. You will also perform essential responsibilities such as taking vital signs, monitoring seclusion/restraint status, and reporting observations to the charge nurse.

Responsibilities:

  • ">
  • Orient patients to the hospital setting, rules and regulations, patient rights, and treatment team system.">
  • Provide companionship for newly admitted patients, establishing rapport and facilitating social networks with other patients on the unit.">
  • Take temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure, height, and weight. Monitor seclusion/restraint status. Record observations/findings in patient charts.">
  • Observe patients' physical and psychological needs and report findings to the charge nurse.">
  • Participate in the treatment team, providing input into patients' master treatment plans.">
  • Implement training for patients in developing self-help skills, such as toileting, feeding, bathing, dressing, basic oral hygiene, and other activities of daily living.">
  • Implement adjunctive services planned and developed by the RPN, Recreational Therapist, and/or Occupational Therapist for the general therapeutic milieu of the unit.">
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and employees at all times. Report and initiate corrective measures for any known unsafe environmental conditions.">
  • Monitor contraband materials and enforce unit rules and regulations at all times.">
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of approaches utilized in crisis intervention during shifts, with the charge nurse and other team members.">
  • Assist in evaluating patients' conditions and progress based on their master treatment plans.">
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge patients. Assist in emergency procedures such as fire drills, seclusion, restraints, patient searches, bomb threats, and disaster drills. Transport/escort patients as assigned. Provide physical care to patients who are unable to take care of themselves.">

Requirements:

  • ">
  • High School Diploma or GED">
  • BLS certification within one month of hire from the American Heart Association">
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying knowledge and abilities specified for the Full Performance level in providing services to clients independently">
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, and work rules of the work site">
  • Preferred: One year of work experience in a mental health facility/unit, involving learning and performing selected therapeutic activities, or one year of acute care experience in a mental health setting">

Estimated Salary: $65,000 - $75,000 per year

Location: Hawaii, Wailuku, Maui Memorial - Molokini I

Work Schedule: Full-time, variable shifts
