Job Overview:

The Southeastern Michigan Health Association is seeking a skilled Breastfeeding Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in promoting breastfeeding education and support services within the community.

About the Role:

This part-time position involves providing individual and group breastfeeding education, marketing and distributing relevant materials, recruiting referrals for the WIC Program, and maintaining records and reports. You will be working collaboratively with the WIC Program and other community projects, as well as representing the Wayne County Department of Health, Human & Veterans Services to the public.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver breastfeeding education sessions, demonstrations, and activities to clients, families, communities, and staff as needed.
  • Maintain outreach with area hospitals to promote best practices in breastfeeding.
  • Demonstrate proper use of breastfeeding equipment and techniques.
  • Set up and break down multiple types of breast pumps.
  • Attend and participate in regular meetings.
  • Establish and maintain contact with pregnant and breastfeeding women via telephone, including those seen at WIC Clinics and area hospitals.
  • Document all contacts with pregnant and/or breastfeeding women within the MIWIC database.
  • Complete and submit monthly reports.
  • May require travel to multiple offices and sites.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Possess effective teamwork skills.
  • Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be proficient in computer software programs, including Microsoft Office and Access.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Internet and web-based applications.
  • Able to follow instructions and learn new tasks efficiently.
  • Hold a valid Michigan driver's license and possess valid Michigan state auto insurance.
  • Possess reliable transportation with full-time access.
