Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse to join our Bed Management and Transfer Center team at The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. This is a full-time position working 36 hours per week on the night shift from 7pm to 7am, with a requirement for holiday and weekend coverage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall direction, guidance, and coordination to healthcare providers in achieving timely and safe patient placements and movement.
  • Evaluate the appropriateness of admission and level of care for all patients, using clinical knowledge to assign the most suitable bed to each patient.
  • Prioritize bed assignments using clinical expertise and assign medical teams/residents for all medicine admissions.
  • In the absence of the Pre-Cert RN, reevaluate the appropriateness of admission and level of care for all patients and may require a buy-back agreement for patients transferring from outside facilities.
  • Facilitate inter-facility transfers through the Penn Medicine Transfer Center, maintaining liaisons with referring facilities and being familiar with UPHS clinical and strategic initiatives to triage patients to the appropriate facility.
Requirements
  • Must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania, with a minimum of 5 years' clinical experience.
  • Critical Care/ED experience is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with all members of the care team is critical.
