The Nurse Assistant (NA) is a vital member of the MercyOne Dubuque/Dyersville Medical Center healthcare team, working under the direct supervision of a registered professional nurse. As a NA, you will provide holistic, compassionate, and effective patient care by assisting patients with activities of daily living. You will also provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to patients, adhering to the Mission of MercyOne, Vision of Patient Care Services, evidence-based standards of care, and established policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist patients with physical needs, such as bathing, dressing, and grooming
• Demonstrate ability to understand and follow directions
• Provide physical, emotional, and spiritual care to patients, respecting their age-specific and culturally sensitive needs
• Record and report vital signs, intake and output, weight, and behavioral changes to supervisory personnel
• Maintain, assemble, and organize equipment for a safe and secure environment
• Assist with mealtime activities, delivering and removing patient trays and feeding patients
• Complete routine daily assignments and perform additional duties as requested, such as transporting patients and obtaining medications, supplies, and medical records from other departments
Requirements:
• Must be at least 16 years of age, with child labor laws applicable to minors under 18
• Meet at least one of the following requirements: be active on the Iowa registry, show proof of completion of a 75-hour CNA course, show proof of EMT Certification, or show proof of formally holding a medical occupation specialty from the military
• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
• Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter
• Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) required within 30 days of hire and every 2 years thereafter
Work Environment:
• Employee will work flexible hours
• Must be able to work in a variable and unpredictable environment
• Job requires frequent squatting, crawling, crouching, kneeling, and balancing, frequent bending/stooping, and reaching above shoulder level, pushing/pulling
• Job requires the use of hands for simple and firm grasping and fine manipulating
• Job requires lifting and carrying frequent 11-24 lbs. and occasionally up to 35 lbs. without assistance
• May be exposed to marked change in temperature and humidity, infectious diseases, hazardous waste, and chemicals
• Must be able to see, speak, and hear
• Must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives
