Correctional Health Services Physician Specialist

Seeking a highly skilled Per Diem Staff Physician to provide primary care to patients in jail-based clinics. The ideal candidate will perform intake evaluations, treatment, and emergency care with Emergency Medicine physicians' support in a single-payer system with no physician time dedicated to billing and no administrative work outside of work hours.
Responsibilities include:
- Completing comprehensive histories and physicals on all new admissions.
- Diagnosing and treating acute and chronic illnesses.
- Evaluating the need for consult services and submitting prioritized consults when indicated.
- Reviewing on-island and off-island specialty consult clinic and hospital returns.
- Evaluating recommendations to ensure standard of care is met and implementing consultant recommendations.
- Responding to emergencies and fire drills on a priority basis and in a timely and professional manner.
- Being familiar with performance indicators and taking appropriate measures to comply with these standards.
- Requesting radiology exams, lab tests, and EKGs when indicated and interpreting these results in conjunction with the patient's clinical status.
- Notifying Urgicare for 3 hour/EMS runs.
- Generating medical modifications as needed.
- Maintaining clinical competency by reviewing CHS protocols, current medical literature, and C.M.E.s.
- Providing clinical supervision for P.A.s/N.P.s, including co-signing notes and medication orders.
- Ensuring standard of care is maintained.
- Adhering to policies and procedures of CHS and being familiar with them by reviewing them as needed.
- Attending all mandatory in-services.
- Complying with and maintaining Employee Health requirements.
Qualifications include:
- Being registered to practice medicine in the State of New York and having Federal DEA, BCLS or ACLS, and Infection Control Certification.
- Having Medical Specialty License or Certification.
- Being Board certified or Board Eligible in Specified Area of Medical Specialty.
- Having 3 to 5 years of directly related experience, including residency in a directly related medical specialty.
- Familiarity with EHR.
