Job Title: Patient Care Specialist

At Animal Care Centers of NYC, we are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Patient Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our animal care team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our furry friends.

Job Summary:

The Patient Care Specialist will assist in the provision of compassionate care for convalescing animals who are injured, ill, or recovering from surgery. This includes tending to the animal's basic needs, such as feeding, walking, cleaning, and socializing. You will also be responsible for monitoring the animal's behavior, appetite, and comfort level, and alerting the Veterinary Team to any concerns.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a high standard of animal care and welfare, including providing scheduled feedings, clean water, proper bedding, and enrichment toys.
  • Take the patient's vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and respirations, as directed by the doctor, and document normal and unusual behavior, signs of illness, and any injury.
  • Restrain, confine, and handle animals, including those that are ill, injured, quarantined, and aggressive, in a safe and humane manner.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Previous animal handling experience, including dog walking, animal husbandry, grooming, measuring vital signs, and restraining aggressive animals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, often high-stress environment and maintain a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work standing for 8 hours or more.
