Job Description

PER DIEM

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Demonstrate technical competency in handling and passing instruments and supplies, monitoring the sterile field, and applying principles of basic aseptic technique.
  2. Assist the physician with equipment during procedures, handle specimens according to policy and procedure, and perform counts according to established procedures.
  3. Maintain appropriate inventory levels for supplies, facilitate the acquisition of supplies, and revise physician preference lists on an ongoing basis.
  4. Utilize downtime constructively, maintain proficiency with unit-specific equipment, and troubleshoot and report malfunctions.
  5. Participate in the evaluation of new supplies, equipment, and instruments, and provide a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.

Physical Job Requirements:

Pushing and pulling, taking frequency and weight into consideration, physical strength to lift heavy objects, carts, or items, physical mobility, dexterity of hands and fingers, balance, and endurance.

Environmental Risks:

Chemicals, chemotherapy, and fumes, loud noises, radiation, sharps, latex, and unplanned or unexpected exposure.

Education, Certification, Computer, and Training Requirements:

High school graduate or GED required, diploma from a vocational or technical school preferred, BLS required, graduate of an OR Technician Program preferred, national certification as an OR Technician required, 2-4 years of experience required, 5-8 years preferred, ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing required, ability to handle confidential information required, and ability to maintain good health and consistent attendance required.
