As an Echocardiography Specialist, you will play a critical role in our non-invasive cardiology department, working closely with top clinical, technical, and business professionals across all disciplines.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform highly skilled, specialized non-invasive tests used to diagnose cardiological abnormalities and participate in research activities using sophisticated mechanical and electronic instruments and microcomputers.
  • Arrange schedules for patient echocardiography studies, prioritizing requests by reviewing orders and securing additional information from referring physicians when necessary.
  • Conduct M-Mode, 2-D, Doppler echocardiogram, and color flow Doppler studies in various settings, including inpatient/outpatient laboratories, patient rooms, intensive care units, ER, and OR, without physician supervision.
  • Determine appropriate views, modify studies according to cardiac abnormalities detected, conduct primary readings, and notify attending physicians of EKG changes or Doppler/echo findings requiring immediate action.
  • Assist physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms performed under conscious sedation in the laboratory and in the OR.
  • Perform exercise stress and pharmacologic stress echocardiograms.
  • Coordinate daily operations of the echo laboratory to ensure studies are performed with optimal quality.
  • Maintain daily logs of all patients and assist managers with preparation of monthly statistics.
  • Edit and copy videotapes, maintain files on tests performed, and create teaching tapes.
  • Responsible for marking all M-Mode echocardiography measurements on the worksheet and completely and accurately completing demographic information on each patient.
  • Log each patient examined in lab logbooks and update orders as needed if patient studies are changed or cancelled.
  • Perform minor maintenance on instruments.
  • Perform duties in accordance with Penn Medicine and entity values, policies, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned to support the unit, department, entity, and health system organization.
