Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States Cayuga Centers Full time
Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Community Advocate Specialist to join our team at Cayuga Centers. As a key member of our Home Study and Post Release Services (HS/PRS) program, you will play a vital role in making a significant impact on the lives of unaccompanied children aged 0-17 1/2.

The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting home studies, assessing the safety of the home and the suitability of the sponsor before the child is unified with them. This assessment ensures that the child will be placed in a secure and appropriate environment.

As a Community Advocate Specialist, you will employ child welfare principles and best practices during this process to ensure the child's well-being. You will also provide post-release services to assess the child and the sponsor's areas of need, ensuring that the child and the sponsor are connected within the community.

About the Program and Position:
  • The HS/PRS program is dedicated to making a significant impact on the lives of unaccompanied children aged 0-17 1/2.
  • Referred through shelters or trusted foster care providers, these children rely on our continuous support throughout their journey from the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) to their parents or sponsors.

You will act as an advocate for the child, helping them navigate the unfamiliar system and connecting them with resources that meet their specific needs. This could include medical care, education, mental health services, and any other support required for their well-being.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a relevant behavioral/social sciences field and experience conducting home studies according to state requirements. Strong professional writing skills, particularly for assessment reports, are also essential. Knowledge of local community social services and experience working with immigrant populations are preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct home studies to assess the safety of the home and the suitability of the sponsor.
  • Provide post-release services to assess the child and the sponsor's areas of need.
  • Act as an advocate for the child, helping them navigate the unfamiliar system and connecting them with resources that meet their specific needs.
  • Manage a high-turnover caseload and comply with agency and regulatory policies and procedures.

Cayuga Centers offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as a 401(k) match up to 6%. The salary for this position is $64,000 annually, based on location and experience.
