Perioperative Surgical Technician

The Surgical Technologist is accountable for the technical functions related to the patient's perioperative experience at VHC Health. The role involves preparing the OR environment, equipment, instrumentation, and supply utilization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparing the OR environment and equipment for surgical procedures
  • Utilizing instrumentation and supplies as needed
  • Working in concert with the circulating RN and adhering to the department's philosophy and goals

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Three years of scrub experience required
  • Licensed Surgical Technologist by the Virginia Department of Health Professions required
  • Certification in Surgical Technology required
  • BLS certification required

Working Conditions:

The Surgical Technologist works in a well-lighted and ventilated office/clinical setting, subject to frequent interruptions. The role requires long hours, changing shifts, and may involve working beyond normal working hours when requested. Routine occupational exposure to infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, hazardous chemicals, noxious odors, latex, and/or musculoskeletal injuries may occur.

The use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is necessary for instances of exposure to blood, body fluids, and infectious processes, which are supplied by the hospital. The Surgical Technologist is involved with patients, family members, co-workers, and visitors under all conditions, including hostile and/or emotionally upset, disoriented, or combative individuals.
