Job Summary:

As a key member of the Walgreens team, the Pharmacist Local Specialty will oversee the daily operations of the pharmacy department, ensuring seamless workflow management, clinical management of patients, and adherence to policy and procedure. This role requires a strong working knowledge of applicable state and federal controlled substance laws, as well as experience in prescription filling and verification, records and legal compliance, pharmacy operations, pharmacy software and technology systems, and insurance.

Responsibilities:

Customer Experience:
  • Ensure department personnel provide hospitable service and information, and are courteous, friendly, and efficient.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints, maintaining and improving the overall image of the pharmacy department.

Operations:
  • Manage the daily operation of the pharmacy department, improving prescription numbers, pharmacy sales, profit, and image through accurate filling of prescriptions and providing courteous and efficient service to customers.
  • Report prescription errors immediately and adhere to Company policies and procedures relating to prescription incidents and the Quality Improvement Program.
  • Comply with all federal and state laws and regulations and Company policies governing all drugs and products, maintaining required records, documentation, and reports.

Asset Protection:
  • Recommend and implement asset protection controls and procedures to identify and minimize profit loss.
  • Improve and maintain pharmacy department housekeeping, maintenance, and appearance for the safety, health, and well-being of customers and employees, and ensure adherence to applicable government regulations and laws.

People and Performance Management:
  • Supervise pharmacy department team members to assure performance of required functions and adherence to Company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure proper licensure of all pharmacy department personnel and confirm pharmacy department employees are trained on all required functions regarding payer and pharmaceutical contractual requirements.

Training and Personal Development:
  • Audit own performance and recommend own objectives and standards of performance.
  • Maintain an awareness of developments in the pharmacy, health care, and retail management fields that relate to job responsibilities, and integrate them into own practices.

Communications:
  • Maintain and develop good working relationships with physicians and other health professionals, working collaboratively with the Local Specialty Pharmacy staff.
