Job Summary

This role is responsible for managing a team of Surety Underwriters, driving a culture of underwriting excellence, and providing ongoing feedback, coaching, and guidance to increase underwriting skill sets and maximize performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of Surety Underwriters, providing guidance and support to ensure quality and quantity of work.
  • Act as a point of escalation/referral on complex underwriting decisions, assisting senior management as needed.
  • Establish employee development/growth plans to address skill enhancement opportunities and ensure new underwriters are trained and supported.
  • Share industry knowledge and underwriting expertise with less experienced underwriters, promoting mobility across the Surety organization.
  • Drive employee engagement through effective execution of talent management practices and cultivate an inclusive environment that makes others feel valued.
  • Manage own portfolio of business/accounts/producers considered complex and/or high impact in scope, contributing significantly to budget and business plans.
Requirements
  • Degree in Business or equivalent typically required.
  • 7 years progressive surety underwriting experience expected.
  • Proven analytical ability to evaluate underwriting risks within scope of responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex analyses and information.
  • Capability to mentor and share information with less experienced employees for underwriting and training purposes.
