Job Description

Best Buddies International is a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development, and inclusive living for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The Intern, Programs and Community Engagement, will work with the Best Buddies Delaware Program Manager to engage volunteers and the community in the organization's mission, specifically the Friendship and Leadership pillars. This role assists with planning and executing trainings and events, furthering efforts to expand programs to new schools, and managing and expanding the Citizens program into new communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and executing events, including social events for Adult Citizens Program
  • Manage the state friendship program Salesforce database
  • Plan the Fall semester events calendar and prepare materials
  • Revamp expansion materials, such as welcome packets and informational materials
  • Onboard new Citizens Participants, including conducting participant interviews and matching participants with and without IDD in one-to-one matches
  • Recruit new schools for the program
  • Plan community events and engagements for participants

Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in college or 2 years' experience working in a nonprofit or relevant field
  • Comfortable engaging with people with IDD
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience with major social media platforms
  • Basic project and time management skills
  • Strong initiative, drive for results, and self-assessment skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Must be comfortable working with youth and adults
  • Available to work 10-15 hours per week during business hours for 8 weeks
  • Available to participate in-person in trainings and meetings in the Wilmington/Newark area
