Job Summary:

The Certified Respiratory Therapist plays a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in an acute care setting. As a key member of the healthcare team, this individual will be responsible for delivering therapeutic and administrative services to patients, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delegate tasks effectively to ancillary personnel to optimize patient care.
  • Perform all clinical respiratory therapy skills in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, taking into account age-specific and culturally sensitive factors.
  • Provide and document patient/family education to promote informed decision-making.
  • Accurately document respiratory care on patient records, adhering to written guidelines.
  • Deliver respiratory care to patients requiring elective or emergency procedures.
  • Utilize St. Claire HealthCare resources and equipment efficiently to provide high-quality patient care.
  • Prepare and administer respiratory therapy medications according to established policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Graduation from a school of Respiratory Therapy.
  • Previous respiratory therapy experience in an acute care setting is preferred.
  • Must be certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and hold a current license from the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care (KBRC).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) recommended.

Physical and Work Requirements:

The physical demands of this role include sitting, using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and communicating with staff, patients, and visitors. Specific vision abilities required include close vision for reading and computer work. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and be on feet for long periods of time, and must be able to tolerate PPE for extended periods. The work environment is typically moderate in noise level, with good lighting and climate control.
