The Ethos Veterinary Health team is seeking a skilled Certified Veterinary Technician - Surgery to join our West Caldwell, NJ location. This exciting opportunity offers a competitive salary and benefits package.

Job Overview

This role provides primary support to the Specialist with diagnostics, treatments, and procedures while ensuring the highest quality care for patients. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness and care.

Responsibilities
  • Provide critical support to the Specialist with incoming consultations and procedures, adhering to 'Fear Free' standards and protocols
  • Understand the organization and operations of the department, ensuring seamless daily OR schedules
  • Manage the safety and setup of induction stations and ORs, as well as pre-operative testing requirements
  • Prepare drugs, fluids, and CRIs for surgical procedures, pre-medicate patients, and assist with anesthesia induction
  • Monitor patients under good anesthetic planes during surgical preparation and local/regional block administration, documenting vitals and recording problems and interventions
  • Carry out orders from the anesthetist, including changes in anesthesia and drug administration
  • Maintain knowledge of proper surgical scrubbing, gowning, and gloving, as well as instrument and equipment care
  • Assist with post-operative diagnostics and other orders, recovering patients smoothly and intervening if necessary
Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a Certified Veterinary Technician
  • Ability to perform all key responsibilities of a Technician Assistant, including safety procedures and acceptable sanitation/sterilization practices
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, equipment, and calculation of accurate dosages and injections
  • Familiarity with CPR and rescue breathing, as well as the ability to take direction from various individuals
  • Capability to anticipate needs of Doctors and Nurses, show initiative, and remain calm under pressure
  • Excellent communication and people skills, with a team-oriented attitude and ability to promote a positive culture
  • Considerable tact and diplomacy when dealing with clients affected by various problems
  • Ability to work with and without direct supervision, as well as kneel, bend, and lift animals onto treatment tables (under 50 lbs)
