About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Education Leader to join our team as a Vice Principal. This is an exciting opportunity to work with our students, staff, and families to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

As a Vice Principal, you will play a key role in driving academic outcomes and fostering a sense of belonging among our students. You will lead instructional teams, support teacher development, and contribute to school-wide initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Vision and Goals
    • Support the development of the school's vision and mission, and motivate staff to achieve their goals.
    • Collaborate with the principal to uphold excellence and implement systems that support the school's vision.
    • Connect team members' vision, goals, and actions to KIPP DC's goal of becoming an anti-racist organization.
  • Plan and Prioritize
    • Collaborate with the principal and leadership team to determine school priorities.
    • Prioritize and manage your time to deliver on short- and long-term goals or priorities.
    • Support teachers in planning and prioritizing their time.
  • School Culture
    • Lead an affirming and joyful culture for students, monitor PBIS systems, and refine them as needed.
    • Work with staff and families to build an inclusive school environment for special populations.
    • Plan for and respond to student behavior that doesn't meet school culture expectations, and follow up with teachers to coach and empower them.
    • Maintain calm and poise in unpredictable situations.
  • Instructional Leadership
    • Communicate and invest teachers and staff in a clear, inclusive instructional vision for all students.
    • Collaborate with instructional coaches to support teachers with unit and lesson internalization strategies.
    • Be a frequent presence in classrooms, supporting teacher growth and student learning.
    • Support a culture where teachers are invested in and prepared for whole-staff adult learning.
    • Explain and describe curriculum, pedagogical practices, standards, and assessments, and how they connect to larger beliefs about teaching and learning.
  • Talent
    • Buid trusting relationships with teachers and staff, and develop meaningful feedback and next steps.
    • Identify high-leverage coaching focuses grounded in student impact and data.
    • Develop, rely on, and refine systems that result in effective coaching of all teachers.
    • Identify academic gaps across grade levels or departments, and develop plans to improve student experiences and outcomes.
    • Consistently communicate to teachers that they are valued, supported, and cared for.
    • Actively communicate with the principal about progress, strengths, areas of growth, and potential trajectories of individual team members.
  • Operations Management
    • Support the leadership team in executing school operational systems such as arrival and dismissal, mealtimes, and attendance.
