Job Summary

The Lutheran Social Services of New York - Safe Haven is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team as a Children's Healthcare Specialist. This role is responsible for ensuring the medical well-being of young persons in immigration custody who are awaiting release to their sponsors.

About the Role

  • Maintain accurate health records, screen for infectious diseases, and manage prescription medication for children in our care.
  • Collaborate with prescribing doctors, foster parents, and staff to ensure correct prescriptions are followed.
  • Promote disease prevention and control through early detection, surveillance, and reporting of contagious diseases.
  • Develop emergency response plans, provide training on safety procedures, and ensure compliance with OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standard.
  • Liaise with DCS Medical on health issues, creating discharge medical plans for complex medical concerns.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to understand NYS and NYC Department of Health regulations.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as a school nurse or similar experience in a medical or teaching hospital, medical center, or related work area.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with outside prescribing doctors, shelter and foster care staff, and students in medical emergencies.
  • Ability to network with the medical system in times of crisis and emergency.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) NYS License required.
