Job Summary

This position is a nine-month faculty position responsible for preparing and delivering quality instruction in Music. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree or higher in Music, Applied Music, Music Performance, Music History, Music Literature, Musicology, or Ethnomusicology. The faculty member will teach courses via on-ground, online, hybrid, or web-enhanced delivery modes as assigned, predominantly Introduction to Music (Music Appreciation) courses, and others that may be assigned. The successful candidate will be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively and collaboratively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.

Duties and Responsibilities

The faculty member will be responsible for teaching courses, working with Course Lead, Program Coordinator, Department Chair, and Dean to ensure consistent and equitable student experiences. They will utilize the college's learning management system (D2L) to provide accurate and updated course materials to students. The faculty member will submit updated and accurate syllabi prior to the first day of class, regularly check NSCC email and departmental mailbox, and respond to emails/messages within 24 hours. They will also complete all required reports, such as attendance, Early Alerts, progress reports, grade submissions, and administer and return questionnaires and student outcome assessments by the required deadlines.

Requirements
  • Master's degree or higher in Music, Applied Music, Music Performance, Music History, Music Literature, Musicology, or Ethnomusicology
  • At least 18 graduate semester hours in Music, Applied Music, Music Performance, Music Literature, Music History, Music Literature, Musicology, or Ethnomusicology
  • Documented experience teaching at the college level
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and accessibility
  • Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission and needs of the student population
