About the Role

Are you passionate about empowering individuals with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives? Do you have a knack for creating safe and supportive environments? We are seeking a Residential Counselor to join our team at MAB Community Services.

Job Summary:

The Residential Counselor will provide essential support to participants in cluster homes, fostering their growth and community involvement in line with individualized support plans. This role involves ensuring high-quality care, supervision, training, and administrative responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervision and Training: Participate in regular supervision and collaborate with the Residential Coordinator to maintain a secure home environment for all participants. Engage in staff meetings, case reviews, ISPs, and other required training sessions.
  • Maintenance of Certifications: Obtain and maintain Medication Administration Program Certification (MAP) and comply with relevant state laws and MAB policies.
  • Administrative Tasks: Complete assignments from the Residential Coordinator, Case Manager, AOD, MAP Consultant, and other supervisors as needed.

Quality Assurance:

  • Safety and Cleanliness: Ensure a safe and clean living space for participants, assisting them in maintaining the home.
  • Data Collection and Documentation: Assist with data collection, progress notes, and assessments to implement ISPs.
  • Confidentiality and Communication: Adhere to program policies on documentation, reporting, and confidentiality while keeping accurate records of participant and program funds.
  • Medical Support: Dispense medications, take vital signs, and administer treatments according to physician orders and MAP policy.

Person-Centered Planning and Support:

  • Advocacy and Support: Advocate for participants' choices, interests, and needs, aligning with their Individual Support Plan (ISP), including person-centered planning.
  • Daily Living Skills: Provide direct support and teach participants essential daily living skills, such as bathing, cooking, cleaning, toileting, shopping, and physical assistance as needed.
  • Observation and Reporting: Monitor and report participants' physical, mental, and emotional well-being, serving as a positive role model in areas like social behavior and interpersonal relations.
  • Crisis Management: Manage challenging situations, facilitate problem-solving, and provide positive behavioral supports, exercising sound judgment when necessary.

Community Partnerships:

  • Social Connections: Facilitate meaningful relationships between participants and friends, family, or community members.
  • Community Engagement: Offer opportunities for participants to become involved in their communities through activities reflecting their interests.
  • Transportation: Arrange transportation for participants to appointments, work, errands, medical visits, religious services, and other activities.
  • Accompaniment: Escort participants to community events, appointments, work, errands, medical visits, and other activities.

Requirements:

  • Education and Experience: High school diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience, with a Bachelor's degree and/or related experience preferred.
  • Communication Skills: Effective communication with participants, families, coworkers, and community professionals.
  • Valid Driver's License: Possess a valid MA driver's license and be able to drive program vehicles, wheelchair vans, and transport participants.
  • Physical Demands: Frequent walking, standing, driving, lifting, and transferring participants, as well as implementing safety restraint procedures.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with computers and ability to learn new reporting software.
  • Certifications: MAB will assist employees with obtaining required MAP Certification, CPR, and First Aid certificates if not already held.

Work Schedule:

Wednesday/Thursday/Friday 9pm-9am

Compensation:

$36 per hour
