Job Summary

The Morton Arboretum's Center for Tree Science is seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to lead an independent research program in Plant Pathology. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will conduct cutting-edge research to ensure healthy and resilient trees and forests in a rapidly changing world.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and oversee an independent research program in plant pathology, aligned with the Arboretum's mission and strategic goals.
  • Communicate research findings to professional and academic peers through presentations and publications.
  • Develop and manage research projects, including proposal writing and reporting to external funders.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and external partners to advance the mission of the Center for Tree Science.
  • Mentor and advise research staff, interns, and students to support their professional development.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in plant pathology or a related field.
  • Expert background in plant pathology, with strong familiarity of modern techniques and tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience interacting with practitioners and professionals in government and private sectors.
