The City of Alexandria, VA is seeking a skilled Transportation Planner to oversee the city's Wayfinding program and manage the Traffic Management Division's assets and inventory. This role requires experience in transportation planning and modeling, as well as a good understanding of urban planning principles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop maintenance and replacement programs for the Wayfinding sign program
  • Manage contracts and procurement for materials and services
  • Oversee an inventory of installed traffic control devices and warehoused parts and equipment

This position also involves collaborating with other city departments, such as the Department of Planning and Zoning, to align the goals of the Wayfinding Program with other city initiatives. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to think on their feet and work collaboratively with field staff, vendors, and contractors.

The estimated annual salary for this position is $92,868.70, based on the national average for transportation planners in the United States. The City of Alexandria, VA offers a range of benefits to its employees, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.

Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in transportation-planning related field or any equivalent combination of experience and training
  • Three years of experience in transportation planning and modeling, with a good understanding of urban planning principles

Preferred qualifications include a Master of Science degree with five years of progressively responsible experience in the transportation field and the ability to complete projects with limited direction and guidance.
