At Higher Ground Education, we are seeking an experienced Financial Management Specialist to join our Accounting Operations Team. This role is a key part of our organization, supporting day-to-day operations and accounting needs. As the leader of our Accounts Payable and Credit Card team, you will be responsible for managing and guiding a team of 5 members.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, with at least 10 years of experience and 3+ years of supervisory/management experience. They should possess mastery of accounting fundamentals, strong Excel skills, and familiarity with US GAAP. Experience with Sage Intacct is a plus.

This position requires a dynamic individual who can adapt to changing circumstances and priorities. You will be working in a collaborative environment with a team dedicated to maximizing collective impact in service of our shared mission. The successful candidate will be able to lead by example, demonstrating expertise and guidance in all aspects of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounts Payable Management: Oversee all A/P functions, provide guidance and mentorship to the A/P team, review invoice coding and proper support documentation, create weekly A/P run worksheets, print and mail check payments, set-up electronic vendor payments, and ensure A/P automation software is updated.
  • Credit Cards / Expense Reimbursement: Ensure on and offboarding processes are performed in a timely manner, remind individuals of report transmission deadlines, communicate and work with Credit Card/Expense Report Software provider to resolve issues, review and approve monthly expense reimbursements, and review monthly expenses in Sage to identify vendors that should be paid via AP.
  • Month End Close / Year End: Ensure all received invoices are recorded in the closing month, review the P&L by location, create and record monthly accrual journal, reverse accruals in the proper GL period, assist with the Year End audit, own the annual 1099 process, and complete it by the deadline.

Benefits: Our competitive salary for this role is $85,000 - $110,000 per year, depending on experience.
