Neonatal Intensive Care Specialist

National standards for neonatal care dictate that Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs) work autonomously in a variety of settings to provide direct primary and acute care to neonates and infants from birth to age 1. This includes assessing, diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with undifferentiated symptoms as well as those with established diagnoses. In addition, NNPs are prepared to order and interpret laboratory and imaging studies, prescribe medication and durable medical equipment, and make appropriate referrals for patients and families.
Requirements and Qualifications:
• Current licensure through the Texas Board of Nursing
• Valid DEA license or ability to obtain prior to employment
• Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association
• NRP Certification
• Previous neonatal experience required
