Job Summary

The Diagnostic Sonography Specialist provides specialized diagnostic sonography procedures and technical expertise to support ancillary personnel. This role requires a strong understanding of sonography principles and the ability to operate complex equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Performs procedures as ordered and obtains images according to written protocols.
  • Positions and immobilizes patients on exam tables and observes during scans.
  • Monitors and reviews video displays of areas being scanned and adjusts density or contrast to improve picture quality and distinguish audible sounds.
  • Reviews and evaluates computer-generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Screens and interviews each patient using designated MRI Patient Clinical Assessment Forms.
  • Organizes and accurately performs individual steps in sonographic procedures in the proper sequence.
  • Performs and documents quality control on equipment according to manufacturer guidelines or department protocols.
  • Reports equipment problems or failures to Bio-Med or Manager.
  • Ensures a safe and clean environment with all necessary supplies needed to perform studies and procedures in exam rooms.
  • Maintains yearly competency, mandatory district education, professional certification, state licensure, and education requirements.
Requirements
  • Associates degree or equivalent from JRCERT-approved school of Radiologic Technology Science.
  • Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology (R) and Mammography (M).
  • Certified by the Texas Medical Board (TMB) as a Medical Radiologist Technologist (MRT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) by first day of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One plus years of related sonogram work experience.
